A lot of BMW TPS kits for MX-5 1.6 are sold as being plug and play by simply plugging the original wiring connector into the BMW TPS. This is incorrect!
The standard MX-5 TPS wiring applies 5V between the centre and right hand pins and reads the signal from the left hand pin. On an E36, the signal pin is in the centre. This means that if connected to standard MX-5 wiring, current is being passed through the wiper arm contact, which degrades as a result. It also results in a very noisy signal, since the wiper contact resistance is forming part of the potential divide. This noise can cause erratic idle, phantom acceleration enrichment and even inconsistent boost pressure if using closed loop control.
This wiring adapter provides a reliable and truly plug and play solution by routing the correct signal to the correct pin without the need for re-pinning connectors or splicing wires.
